The web developer looked at his boss a little confused and mumbled something about it not being his core competence with him being a programmer and all. A few mouths opened as if to speak but nothing came out until finally exasperated the CEO tearing at his hair in frustration turned to a guy painting the wall and said, "Can you answer this question? The painter smiled knowingly, winked, dipped his brush into his paint tin, before evenly applying more paint to the wall in calm considered strokes. Then without looking away from his work he continued, "When you asked me to paint this wall, you knew why you wanted it painted. For the first few months after Yahoo decided to go their own way with natural search (and MSN decided to get serious about the search business), the search results provided by those two could only be described as bizarre. Enough time has now passed that the dust has somewhat settled and there are three main (from a traffic standpoint) sites for quality natural searches.
The term “natural search” is to distinguish true searches, as opposed to paid advertisements which appear in the search results for many search engines these days. I guess you can’t really fault the search engine companies from wanting to make some money (actually, BIG money) selling ad space, but the debate over the virtues of natural search versus paid advertising search is something that could take up a very large book and still have no clear resolution…much like arguments revolving around religion or politics.

I just reviewed a new website and I’m in shock. Or, maybe, I’m just depressed about my failure to convince people to do what I tell them so they can make money.

For example, this webmaster wants to sell products. He wants to make money online. He’s got a bunch of good products at great prices. I know this because he told me. No one else knows this after visiting his website. He’s kept it a secret.

If you write articles for Newspapers or magazines you will have noticed that most of the stories have photographs or pictures accompanying the text. It adds a whole dimension to the story, piquing interest in the words that may have otherwise been skimmed over and ignored as just being another of an infinite number of articles. Extremely valuable information could be lost to our consciousness, and to our community on the Internet. Pictures have been used in the ‘paper’ for decades, if not centuries. We’ve come to expect an exciting aesthetic presence when something new and interesting is presented to society. So, why is it that this area of the most modern medium for the written word doesn’t allow images?
