Developing A Login System With PHP And MySQL
November 30, 2007
Most interactive websites nowadays would require a user to log in into the website’s system in order to provide a customized experience for the user. Once the user has logged in, the website will be able to provide a presentation that is tailored to the user’s preferences.
A basic login system typically contains 3 components:
1. The component that allows a user to register his preferred login id and password
2. The component that allows the system to verify and authenticate the user when he subsequently logs in
3. The component that sends the user’s password to his registered email address if the user forgets his password
Such a system can be easily created using PHP and MySQL.
================================================================
Component 1 ? Registration
Component 1 is typically implemented using a simple HTML form that contains 3 fields and 2 buttons:
1. A preferred login id field 2. A preferred password field 3. A valid email address field 4. A Submit button 5. A Reset button
Assume that such a form is coded into a file named register.html. The following HTML code excerpt is a typical example. When the user has filled in all the fields, the register.php page is called when the user clicks on the Submit button.

Is Your Domain Costing You Traffic?
November 28, 2007
You visited a great website some time ago that had some fantastic information on it. It is not easily found in search engines results so you decide to type the domain name into your favorite browser. The problem is that the url spells out something like keyword-keyword-keyword-keyword-keyword.com.
Does that sound ethical to you? It maybe helpful with those search engine rankings but for many visitors that can be a pain in you know what to type out.
For years I worked in an internet café and was surprised to know that many persons can’t type in a hyphen. Instead of finding out how to do it, they just move on to an alternate site hence a loss of traffic.
The average computer user can be a lazy fellow indeed. That’s why there are so many keyboard shortcuts. He needs to complete his task as soon as possible.
Ever wonder why the Googles, Yahoos, Amazons and Ebays of the online world are so successful? It’s because there domain name play a significant role in there branding.
Search Engine Submission- Don?t be a cheapskate!
November 27, 2007
Submitting your website to the main search engines should be handled with care. Do it right, and the rewards can be great.
Webmaster Beware- Submitting your website to the major search engines too often can get your website banned completely from those all important major search engines, like Google, MSN, Yahoo and Alta Vista.
Let’s face it, everyone wants the coveted top position in their respective category on all the major search engines. Getting there requires a lot of tweaking of your meta tags, reciprocal linking to sites with high page ranks, and of course submitting your site to the search engines, either manually or utilizing a service to do it for you.
Submitting your site manually is a long a tedious operation, often requiring more time than you had planned on spending just to submit to 30 or less search engines. Submitting your site manually is not recommended.
The Struggling Internet Marketer

Instead of giving you advice on how to make a million bucks, and pretending to be famous and wealthy, I would like to talk about all the net-prenuers who aren’t making a living on the information superhighway.
Everytime you turn around, someone is trying to sell you the next sliced bread, or the answer to your prayers. Who’s buying these dreams? I’ll tell you who, people like me, people that still have a full-time job and are getting griped out by their spouses for spending too much time on the net when they get home! People who are hoping one day they can make a better life for themselves. But the sad truth is that most of the people who are buying these products never see any residual income at all. Meanwhile, the big dogs are getting richer and richer. No need to prove my point on this, just look at all the Wal-Mart stores in the United States.
Search Engine Optimization Strategies To Drive More Targeted Traffic To Your Website
November 26, 2007
Want to drive more targeted traffic to your web site?
Want to do it for free?
If you answered “yes” you’re in for a treat. Use the search engine optimization and ranking techniques in this article and you will be well on your way to a front page listing in the major search engines.
Up until now, you’ve been led to believe that search engine optimization and search engine ranking strategies were something better left to an expert. But that’s not true. Any serious marketer can and should learn the simple search engine optimization and ranking techniques that can get his site listed on the first page of the search engines.
Before I begin I want to point out that search engine optimization and ranking strategies fall into two catagories. On page factors and off page factors.
On page factors you have a lot of control over. Things like content, good keywords, and the proper use of anchor text.
Off page factors, like page rank, you’ll have less control over. But it’s important that you exercise as much control as you can over the off page factors as well. These will be discussed in another article.
Ask and Ye Shall Create

How do you decide to create a new speech? A new report? A net product? Most of us have an idea, then start to work on it. It’s only when we are well into the creation phase that we determine whether or not it will sell.
By then, it’s too late! We’ve put time and effort into the production. Either we don’t want to “waste” that time and effort, so we go ahead with a product destined to lose money or we “scrap” an idea that we’re just SURE could have been productive…if it only had time.
What if we reverse this “create, then market” paradigm? Let’s determine FIRST if there is a market, then create the product the market wants. The Internet provides the ideal venue for this process because it’s cost-effective to distribute your survey, and it offers quick turnaround for responses.
Your first step is to create a survey that you’ll send to your target market. Your survey includes four parts:
1. Create a list of problems or issues that are typical of your target market. For the speakers market, for example, topics could include marketing materials, topic choice, product development, demo videos, office productivity, etc.
Antennas Of The New Age

Antennas Of The New Age
by: Robert Thatcher
Antennas have been around for a long time. Before the birth of cable television, homes would need it to just to get a signal. The person would need to put this on the roof and adjust it from time to time to get better reception. Satellite television has also changed this making these crude yet useful devices obsolete.
The computer age has followed suit. There was a time that an individual had to dial up just to get an internet connection. With the development of wireless routers that come with a WiFi antenna, work using the computer can be done without the need to connect any wires.
Another term that is used for Wifi antennas are omnidirectional antennas. Some users who have this at home have said that it is better to have this replaced with a different kind. This is because the current antenna has difficulty reaching long distances since the signaling power needs to extend in many directions.
One solution to address this problem is getting an external omnidicrectional antenna that is much more powerful than the old one. This gives internet access to people who have more than one computer located in different areas of the house.
Criteria of Choosing an Ideal Web Hosting Company
November 23, 2007
Before we talk about what it takes to be a cheap and good quality web host, let’s get to the fundamental first.
What is a Web Host? A web host is a service provider that places your web site on a computer which is connected to the internet. The term for this ‘computer’ is called a server.
A web hosting provider will typically have a fast connection to the Internet and they may host thousands of web sites on many servers. The web host essentially rents out space to you so that you can get your website up on the world wide web.
With a well-managed web host, you can free yourself from worrying the up-keep of complicated server technology and proper technical maintenance. That’s the whole purpose of the web hosting companies. You should leave the technical work to web hosting professional while you focus on your own internet business.

Developing State-enabled Applications With PHP
When a user is browsing through a website and is surfing from one web page to another, sometimes the website needs to remember the actions (e.g. choices) performed by the user. For example, in a website that sells DVDs, the user typically browses through a list of DVDs and selects individual DVDs for check out at the end of the shopping session. The website needs to remember which DVDs the user has selected because the selected items needs to be presented again to the user when the user checks out. In other words, the website needs to remember the State - i.e. the selected items - of the user’s browsing activities.
However, HTTP is a Stateless protocol and is ill-equipped to handle States. A standard HTML website basically provides information to the user and a series of links that simply directs the user to other related web pages. This Stateless nature of HTTP allows the website to be replicated across many servers for load balancing purposes. A major drawback is that while browsing from one page to another, the website does not remember the State of the browsing session. This make interactivity almost impossible.
