5 Simple Steps to Great Search Engine Rankings

June 30, 2009

Having your website rank well in the major search engines is crucial to a successful Internet business. However, the information on doing so, which abounds on the Internet, can be perceived as complex and contradictive. Many website owners end up overwhelmed by all the data and simply quit and move on to other areas of promotion. By following the handful of steps presented in this article you will be well on your way to solid rankings.

Primer

Each webpage is its own unit, which has its own title and theme. A theme is most commonly referred to as keywords or a keyword phrase. The theme should be based on the most dominant data for that webpage. Therefore, if you have a webpage that lists ten types of coffee cups, "coffee cups" would be the likely choice for the theme. However, if the theme is too general then you should work to compact it as there will be far too many results in the search engine to contend with. Perhaps your webpage lists ten types of coffee cups which all have American symbols on them. Two of the various possible themes would then be "American coffee cups" and "patriotic coffee cups".

Cisco CCNA / CCNP Home Lab Tutorial: Starting Over
 by: Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933

When you’re preparing for success on your CCNA or CCNP certification exams, sooner or later you’re going to want to start totally from scratch on your Cisco routers and switches. It’s easy enough to type “write erase” and “reload”, but there are a few details you have to watch if you want your home lab or rack rental devices to act as though they just came out of the box.

The first step is indeed to run the command write erase, and then reload the router. You’re going to be prompted with a question before the reload starts, though, and you have to give the right answer …. or your configuration will still be there when you reload!

First, you will be prompted to confirm the erase. Press to accept the default answer of “confirm”.

R1#write erase

Erasing the nvram filesystem will remove all configuration files! Continue? [confirm]

[OK]

Erase of nvram: complete

With the startup configuration erased, it’s time to reload the router. This is where the second prompt comes in:

R1#reload

Choose A Host That Matches Your Home Business Needs

June 28, 2009

With plethora of hosting companies offering services, choosing a good web host seems an intimidating task. The technical jargon is hard to decipher and that makes it difficult further. It is better to prepare beforehand and then search for offers rather than acting otherwise.

What is web hosting? If one compares the web to land hosing is the place where your office or website will be placed. Server is the computer which stores your website files and allows them to be viewed on clicking the link to your site.

With free hosting out of question for business and dedicated hosting being too expensive, shared hosting is the only and good option for home business. As the name suggests, in shared hosting your site is stored with many others unlike dedicated hosting which stores only your site.

Now let us discuss other features:

?Disc or Server space:

This is the space on hard disk of your server that will be allotted to your site. Without graphics a typical web page occupies 40 ? 50 Kb. Now 1000 kb = 1 MB. Allowing space for graphics too and need for any future expansion anything between 50 -100 MB should be good enough if you are not running a flashy website. Many companies offer space up to 1 GB (1000 MB) but if you do not require, do not fall for the offer.

Attract More Orders

June 28, 2009

Attracting More Orders! Jump Starting Sales! Sky-Rocketing Profits! Whatever you want to call it. It all boils down to one thing, MORE TRAFFIC! And the different ways to get it. Here’s some more ideas to try.

Use a “P.S.” or “Sig File”, (signature file) at the end of your ad copy. Repeat a strong benefit or a strong close like a FREE ebook, ecourse, report or article that will compliment your original ad copy.

Multiple streams of income are popular. Create a product, promote it, join affialiate programs, promote them, sell advertising space on your site or in your ezine, promote that, create a membership site, promote it, etc. Have a few products on your web site instead of a large amount of products. Rotate your products out, while keeping the good sellers in. To many choices can overwhelm your visitors and they won’t buy.

Take your customers to a “Thank You” web page after they order that includes other products you sell. Click here to see ThankYouAds.com - http://tinyurl.com/5kack .

Writing Effective ALT Text For Images

June 27, 2009

Anyone who knows anything about web accessibility knows that images need alternative, or ALT, text assigned to them. This is because screen readers can’t understand images, but rather read aloud the alternative text assigned to them. In Internet Explorer we can see this ALT text, simply by mousing over the image and looking at the yellow tooltip that appears. Other browsers (correctly) don’t do this. The HTML for inserting ALT text is:

img src=”filename.gif” alt=”Alternative description goes here”

But surely there can’t be a skill to writing ALT text for images? You just pop a description in there and you’re good to go, right? Well, kind of. Sure, it’s not rocket science, but there are a few guidelines you need to follow…

Spacer images and missing ALT text

Spacer images should always be assigned null ALT text, or alt=”" . This way most screen readers will completely ignore the image and won’t even announce its presence. Spacer images are invisible images that pretty most websites use. The purpose of them is, as the name suggests, to create space on the page. Sometimes it’s not possible to create the visual display you need, so you can stick an image in (specifying its height and width) and volià, you have the extra space you need.

Sell Yourself First…Your Key To More Sales

June 26, 2009

Selling on the internet is a challenge. There is no way to come “face to face” with your potential buyer. That visitor is unlikely to buy from you on the first visit. It’s likely to take several visits and contacts before they throw down that cash or credit card.

So, how do you build enough trust in a visitor to make them a customer who will press that “buy” button?

Well, here are some tips on getting started with building trust among your site’s visitors.

Put a picture of yourself on your site. Heck, it doesn’t even have to be a current one. It can be like mine at: http://www.bizsitebiz.com/larryjohnson.jpg . When my wife saw that she said, “Who is that?”

Have an “About me” page on your site. Let them know how long you have been working on line and a little bit about you and how you do business.

My “About me” page on ebay.com tells my bidders a little bit of information to build some trust before they place a bid. http://snipurl.com/c8z3

Use autoresponders with a series of messages to remind them who you are and what you offer. Include some helpful advice or tips. There are lots if fr*ee ones around like:

Dreamweaver Too Complicated?, Go Live And Frontpage Too Steep A Learning Curve?
 by: Paul Lewis

XSitePro is a new website design package that we have reviewed to create entire web sites, not just individual pages, and optimize them.

I think that some web design packages have too steep a learning curve. That’s why I want to tell you about a product that I’ve just reviewed called XSitePro. Here is a brief summary, and you can see the full review by using the link indicated at the end of this article.

I was looking for something more versatile than a lot of the lower end website building software such as Web Easy Pro, and Web Plus, yet with a good deal of the functionality of the higher end products such as Dreamweaver and Frontpage. As I needed to start quickly I didn’t want the steep learning curve that these higher end products demanded.

Quite by accident I came across XSitePro. At first I was nearly dissuaded from taking it further, because I was presented with a one-page sales website which the software authors put out.

HTML Title Tags Dictate Your Rankings

June 23, 2009

There are a lot of things in Search Engine Optimization when done to your site that can increase you rankings. But one aspect that always comes up and that always affects your rankings in a huge way is altering the title tag.

The title tag is perhaps the most important tag out of all your html tags that can make or break your optimization process.

The reason why this is so is because the title tag is seen and always present in the search engine results pages.

The search engines always take the contents out of the tag and inserts them into the contents of the result pages in the search engines. And this is why the title tag should compile the contents or summarize the contents of your website to a “T”.

It is this summarization of your site with the title tag that can take you into the top rankings, (along with some other aspects of course) or leave you in the bottom rankings.

With the title tag, each search engine looks at it and uses it primarily the same way, to summarize and compile the websites contents for its search engine users. It is primarily the HOW and WHERE the keywords are placed within the tag thats most crucial.
